Former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi is mourning the death of his daughter, Anita Kendi Kiraitu, who passed away after a short illness, prompting an outpouring of condolence messages from Kenyan leaders and close associates.

Leaders and Kenyans across the country took to social media to comfort the veteran politician and his family following the heartbreaking loss.
Political figure Michael Makarina expressed his sorrow in a moving tribute, saying:
“It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Anita Kendi Murungi, the last-born daughter of former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, following a short illness.”
He added: “I extend my heartfelt condolences to Kiraitu Murungi, Priscilla and the entire family during this difficult and painful time. May God grant you strength, comfort and peace, and may Anita’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

Meru Governor Mutuma also shared a heartfelt message, noting the pain the family is enduring.

“Losing a daughter is a loss no parent is ever prepared for, and my thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve,” he wrote.
On his part, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua also mourned Anita, describing Kiraitu as “our respected elder and 2nd Governor of Meru County.”
“We are truly sorry for the loss of your daughter,” Gachagua said in a message shared alongside his wife, Rev. Dorcas Rigathi. “We place you and your family in our prayers. May the Lord God give you strength and comfort.”
The family has not yet announced burial and funeral arrangements.
