According to a report on YouTube by TV Platinum, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the alleged demolition and seizure of properties belonging to ordinary Nigerians in Abuja.

Sowore accused authorities of constantly targeting poor citizens while leaving influential individuals untouched.

Reacting to the development, he said, “They are always after what the poor people have. That is their interest.”

The activist expressed concern over the growing number of reports involving demolition exercises and property disputes affecting low-income residents in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, government actions should focus on improving the welfare of citizens instead of making life harder for struggling families.

Sowore argued that many poor Nigerians spend years working to build homes and small businesses, only to risk losing everything through sudden government actions.

He maintained that such policies continue to widen the gap between the rich and the poor in the country.

The former presidential candidate also questioned why enforcement measures often appear to affect vulnerable residents more than wealthy property owners.

He stated that the pattern has created anger among many Nigerians who believe the system unfairly favors the powerful.

His remarks have since sparked reactions online, with supporters agreeing that poor citizens frequently bear the consequences of government policies.

Others, however, defended ongoing enforcement activities in Abuja, insisting that authorities have the right to remove illegal structures regardless of who owns them.

The statement has continued to fuel debate on social media over housing rights, urban development, and the treatment of low-income Nigerians in the nation’s capital…See More
