An Australian national, going by his social media username Papa_Grumps, publicly criticised local authorities and media outlets for what he described as a lack of urgency and coverage surrounding the case.

In a video shared online on his social media platforms, Grumps questioned why the death of the young Kenyan woman had not received widespread media attention.

He noted that Chebet, who had recently arrived in Australia and worked as a cleaner at the apartments where she was later found unresponsive, deserved the same level of public concern as anyone else.

“A young black Kenyan student was found unresponsive on a 4th-floor balcony in American Suites in Sydney about a month ago. If that had been a rich white businessman or a celebrity or sports star, it would have been all over the news. Crickets from the media and police. Is that an indication of the importance they put on the death of a woman, and a black woman at that? Shame,” he said.

His concerns resonated with many Kenyans and social media users who thanked him for speaking out and helping bring attention to Chebet’s case
