Social media activist and commentator has sparked debate after making a series of claims about the origins, evolution and persistence of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.

Speaking in a video shared online, VeryDarkMan alleged that former Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau initially deceived and recruited Muslims before later turning against them, while also claiming that Christians were exploited by the terrorist group during its campaign of violence.

He further argued that some politicians believed they could use and control Boko Haram for their own interests but eventually lost control of the group.

According to him, Boko Haram’s ultimate objective is to subjugate both Muslims and Christians before imposing what he described as a new interpretation of Islam.

“The killing will not stop soon, the attacks on schools will not stop soon,” he said, warning that the insurgency remains a major threat to national security.

VeryDarkMan also claimed that Nigeria could overcome the insurgency through collective national action, but alleged that elements within government benefit from the ongoing conflict and religious tensions, making a complete resolution difficult.
