The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has warned officers and men of the command against misconduct, indiscipline and other forms of unprofessional conduct.

Ojo declared that the era of impunity within the Nigeria Police Force has come to an end.

The police commissioner issued the warning during a strategic briefing held on Monday with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders and other senior officers across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the briefing was aimed at reinforcing the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on discipline, accountability and professionalism within the Force.

The commissioner stressed that the Nigeria Police Force would no longer condone any form of misconduct or abuse of office by its personnel.

He said, “The era of impunity is over, and every officer must conduct himself or herself in a manner that upholds the integrity, discipline, and professionalism expected of members of the Force.”

He cautioned officers to be mindful of their actions, utterances and general conduct while carrying out official duties, noting that the growing influence of digital technology and social media has placed law enforcement personnel under increased public scrutiny.

The police boss warned that officers could easily be recorded while engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Force, stressing that such conduct would attract severe consequences.

“Any officer captured engaging in misconduct, incivility, abuse of authority, extortion, harassment, or any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute will face stringent disciplinary actions in accordance with established police regulations,” he stated.

Ojo also delivered a lecture on the Force’s Social Media Policy, reminding officers that irresponsible online behaviour and the unauthorised dissemination of official information could undermine operational security and damage the reputation of the police.

“Careless online conduct, unauthorized dissemination of official information, and activities capable of undermining operational security or the image of the Force will attract appropriate sanctions,” he warned.

As part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve public safety across the state, the commissioner directed all Divisional Police Officers to intensify engagement with religious leaders, school proprietors, principals and other key stakeholders within their areas of responsibility.

He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between communities and the police in safeguarding places of worship, educational institutions and other vulnerable public spaces against emerging security threats.

“The command remains committed to strengthening partnerships with critical stakeholders in order to enhance security and ensure the protection of lives and property across Kwara State,” he said.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led policing and community partnership, assuring residents that the police would continue to deliver effective service while enforcing discipline among its personnel.

He added that the command remains resolute in its determination to uphold the highest standards of policing and maintain public confidence in law enforcement across the state.

The Nigeria Police Force has in recent years intensified efforts to improve professionalism, accountability and public trust through internal disciplinary measures, community policing initiatives and stricter enforcement of ethical standards.

The Force has also repeatedly cautioned personnel against misconduct, extortion, abuse of authority and misuse of social media, warning that officers found culpable would face sanctions in line with police regulations.
