Pastor Mike Bamiloye Defends Adeboye: Church’s Duty Is to Pray, Not Protest

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye has responded to Nigerians calling on Pastor Enoch Adeboye to lead a protest against the government, stating that the church’s primary responsibility is to pray for the nation. He argued that expecting an 84‑year‑old servant of God to lead a protest “does not make sense by virtue of his age and by the mandate of his calling.” He clarified that the 2020 prayer walk was a directive from CAN and PFN for all churches to protest insecurity, not a political action against Jonathan.

Key Points:

Bamiloye shifts responsibility from prophetic confrontation to intercessory prayer.
Many Nigerians feel religious leaders use prayer as a shield to avoid speaking truth to power.
The age argument contradicts the fact that Adeboye led a prayer walk at 78 in 2020.
The clarification that the walk was under CAN/PFN instruction may not satisfy those demanding active resistance.
The church’s silence on governance leaves a void that civil society struggles to fill.

Nigerians demanding accountability from religious leaders may continue to be disappointed if the church insists only prayer, not protest, is its mandate.
