‘Politicians Care More About 2027 Than Saving Lives’ — Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over Insecurity

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, accusing politicians of focusing more on future elections than the safety of ordinary citizens.

In a strongly worded statement shared on his social media page, Obi lamented the continued killings, kidnappings and violent attacks occurring across different parts of the country.

The former Anambra governor noted that more than two weeks after the abduction of pupils, students and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, many of the victims are still being held captive by their abductors.

Obi also pointed to recent attacks in Plateau, Kogi and Anambra states, where several people were reportedly killed, injured or kidnapped by armed criminals.

According to him, the latest incidents highlight the growing insecurity facing Nigerians and the urgent need for decisive action from those in leadership positions.

The former presidential candidate specifically referenced the deadly attack on a community in Plateau State that reportedly left several residents dead and many others injured. He also cited the abduction of residents in Kogi State and the killing of police officers in Anambra State.

However, Obi said what worries him most is that many politicians appear more interested in planning for future elections than addressing the immediate security challenges confronting the country.

“Politicians remain consumed by the next election, paying far more attention to political ambitions than to the safety and well-being of citizens,” he stated.

He stressed that the continued wave of attacks, kidnappings and killings should be treated as a national emergency and called for urgent measures to restore security across the country.

Obi added that protecting lives must remain the primary responsibility of any government and urged leaders at all levels to focus on the welfare and safety of Nigerians.

Do you agree with Peter Obi that politicians are paying more attention to 2027 politics than Nigeria’s security crisis? Share your opinion below.
