–         Says NGO has impacted over 3,000 lives

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

Former First Lady of Imo State and founder of Women of Devine Destiny Initiative (WODDI), Mrs. Zinariya Nneoma Rochas Okorocba, said the organization will on Saturday launch a digital App that will be used to educate and empower Nigerian women and their counterparts in other African countries.

Former First Lady of Imo State and Founder of WODDI, Mrs. Zinariya Nneoma Rochas Okorocba who spoke to journalists about the women initiative said the organization has empowered over 3,000 women in Nigeria and is currently operational in many other African countries.

While speaking on the plan to launch WODDI Institute App on Saturday, Mrs. Okorocba said the platform will serve as an online university open for every woman with or without experience of formal education.

According to her the WODDI Institute App will try to empower women with various knowledge and skills to become bread winners and economic power house.

She also said that the App has been packaged in such a way that the women will be allowed to study at their own pace, and that they can choose the language that is most suitable for them.

“This is an app that we believe that we want to use to ensure that we empower women, not just Nigerian women, but Africa women. It is like an online University for every woman.

“And one of the things that we want to achieve is that every woman is key. Like one of our slogans is that no woman should be left out, meaning that we are structured in such a way that no matter whether you’re educated or not, you will be allowed to study at your own pace, and they choose the language that is most suitable for you.

“If you don’t want to use English, maybe you go for Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo or whatever language,” she said.

Nkechi Okorocba who said that WODDI has organized several workshops and hosted many editions of the empowerment Summit in its 17 years of existence said that it also implements another empowerment program that emphasizes on skill acquisition for women.

She recounted when she was the First lady of Imo state, saying she built three skill acquisition centres in three senatorial districts that were able to produce almost 100,000 students in different skills.

“Skill, we know, is everything these days, even if you are tuned to maybe have a white-collar job that you are doing, for you to make sure that your family is okay, you must have something else that you are doing.

“So here in WODDI, we take our time to ensure that we teach and educate people on different skills, be it tailoring, be catering, be it cosmetology, we do that,” she said.

Speaking on the need to groom the youths properly so that they can face future chalkboard in life, Mrs. Okorocha said that today’s world requires people with skills and innovative ideas.

“We are complaining about people, but you were able to give them the foundation, that they need at that young stage. Of course, they will get it right,” she said.
