According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has stated that he intends to work towards ensuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is voted out in the next general elections.

He made the position known during a televised interview, where he spoke extensively about Nigeria’s political direction, the performance of the current administration and the prospects of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

His comments centered on his belief that the present leadership has not provided the kind of governance he expects for national progress.

During the interview, Baba-Ahmed discussed the political situation in the country and the role of opposition figures in shaping electoral outcomes.

He expressed concern about what he described as declining public confidence in governance and the need for stronger political alternatives.

According to him, discussions around leadership change are becoming more common among Nigerians who are dissatisfied with current economic and social conditions.

He positioned his remarks within the broader context of democratic participation, where citizens and political actors assess leaders based on performance and national direction.

He further stated that he believes it is possible for the ruling All Progressives Congress to be defeated in the next general elections if opposition parties are able to organize effectively.

He suggested that electoral competition remains open and that no political party should assume automatic victory.

His comments reflected confidence that voter sentiment could shift significantly if alternative political movements are able to present coordinated strategies and credible candidates.

He emphasized that political outcomes are ultimately determined by public choice and the strength of competing platforms.

Baba-Ahmed also expressed strong criticism of the current administration’s leadership style and policy direction.

He described President Tinubu’s governance approach as one he considers harmful to Nigeria’s future development.

According to him, the decisions taken by the administration have raised concerns among citizens regarding economic stability, national unity and long-term planning.

He argued that leadership choices at the federal level have significant consequences for the country’s direction, especially in areas such as economic management, security coordination and institutional reform.

He explained that his political stance is shaped by what he views as the need for a change in leadership to address Nigeria’s challenges.

Baba-Ahmed maintained that governance requires accountability and responsiveness to the needs of the population.

He suggested that when leaders fail to meet public expectations, it becomes necessary for political actors and citizens to consider alternatives through democratic processes.

His remarks were framed around the idea that political competition should remain active and that leadership should be continuously evaluated based on performance.

The PRP chairman also spoke about the importance of opposition engagement in strengthening democratic practice in the country.
