  • A mother was taken aback by her daughter’s response after buying her a sleek black car to celebrate her graduation
  • The graduate bluntly told her mum she had expected better and was not interested in the gift, even suggesting that she sell it
  • Her attitude sparked widespread reactions from social media users, who flocked to the comment section to share mixed opinions

A woman has learned that not all good gestures are appreciated, especially by some members of Generation Z, who are often perceived as having high expectations.

The mother was left stunned after gifting her daughter a luxurious and beautiful car to celebrate her graduation and academic success.

Little did she know that despite going the extra mile to mark the milestone, her efforts would be met with disappointment.

She bought her daughter a black Honda, but the graduate was unimpressed with the gift, prompting the mother to share screenshots of their conversation.

The mother asked her daughter why she did not like the car, and the young woman gave a brutally honest answer that left her baffled.

Mum lectures daughter after rejecting Honda gift

“I appreciate you, Mom, but it’s just not my style. You drive a G-Wagon, so me driving a basic Honda is weird,” the daughter said.

The mother felt disrespected and believed her daughter did not appreciate a gift that many people would have received with gratitude.

She responded with a lengthy message, explaining why she drove a bigger and more expensive vehicle.

“You realize you just graduated high school, right? You have a roof over your head. You don’t have to pay bills. College is paid for. You don’t have to rush and leave home. Your life is set. So, to sit there and tell me you don’t like the car I paid cash for is crazy. That is very ungrateful,” part of her text read.

How old is the graduate’s mum?

The woman added that if her daughter truly appreciated her efforts, she would have accepted the car instead of reacting with an attitude and walking away.

She threatened to sell the car if her daughter was not willing to drive it, saying she would not beg her child to accept the gift.

“I am 45. I worked hard for my G-Wagon. You are a teenage graduate. You have not worked hard for anything yet. How dare you?” she wrote.

Instead of apologising or showing remorse, the daughter gave her mother permission to sell the car, saying she did not need it.

Speaking to NgGossips, Stephen Mbogo, a father of one, applauded the young lady for not taking the gift, saying even children had the liberty to refuse gifts.

“The daughter is right. She knows her worth. You cannot give me a gift which you think they are worth my worth, while to me they are not. It is better if you ask me what I would like, then you can gift me. Know who you are and your worth. Let the mum sell it and buy what her daughter wants if she really wants to show affection to her,” he said.

Netizens react to young lady’s attitude

The exchange quickly attracted widespread attention, with social media users sharing their thoughts in the comment section.

“I’d take that Honda over a Benz or BMW any day. It’s reliable, cheap to maintain, and it won’t leave you stranded. That Accord model is fire! This is why you shouldn’t hand kids everything. They need to learn the value of money and how hard you have to work for it.”

“The current generation thinks they deserve everything without earning it!”

soulscribern:

“I just took my daughter off my insurance because she used my credit card without permission. That’s stealing, and I have boundaries. Don’t feel bad at all. You’re not alone. We work hard so they can have easier lives than we did, but sometimes we unintentionally do them a disservice.”

okeybakassi:

“That child needs more lessons in gratitude and humility. I hope she stays in the bubble her parents have created for her because the real world won’t be so kind.”

“Gratitude is taught. Teach her gratitude by returning the car and any other luxury item she doesn’t appreciate. She can either figure life out without them or earn them herself. She’ll appreciate those things once she’s worked for them through her own blood, sweat, and tears. Mom, you did well. Now she needs to learn gratitude. Best of luck!”
