‘Nigeria Is a Funny Country’ — Ibiyeomie Reacts to Calls for Pastors to Speak Up

Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has questioned what he described as the selective criticism of religious leaders in Nigeria, insisting that many clerics have consistently spoken out on national issues over the years.

Speaking during a church service, Ibiyeomie said it was ironic that some Nigerians are now asking why prominent voices who criticized previous administrations are not speaking up about the country’s current challenges.

According to him, several religious leaders, including pastors, had repeatedly commented on governance and societal issues in the past, but were often accused of talking too much.

“Nigeria is a funny country. All those who used to speak out during Jonathan’s administration, why are they not talking now?” he asked.

The cleric further responded to claims that men of God have remained silent on the nation’s present situation, stating that many had already played active roles in addressing national concerns.

“They say men of God are no longer speaking about the current situation in the country. When we were shouting, did you people speak up? We have been speaking out for a long time,” he said.

Ibiyeomie also cited Pastor Oyedepo as one of the religious leaders who had publicly expressed views on national matters, noting that such interventions were often met with criticism.

“Even Pastor Oyedepo did, and people said we talk too much,” he added.
