The pair had recently returned to Uganda after spending more than three decades in Zurich, Switzerland, where they had built their lives and raised their children.
Family members had hoped their return to Uganda would mark the beginning of a peaceful retirement. Instead, their dream was cut short by a tragedy that remains unresolved.
Following the killings, police launched investigations and detained two casual labourers who worked at the couple’s home to assist with inquiries.
The Mutaagas deaths unsolved
However, despite months of investigations involving several intelligence agencies, authorities have yet to establish a conclusive motive for the murders or bring those responsible to justice.
The lack of answers left the couple’s children deeply unsettled. Family sources previously revealed that fears over their own safety, coupled with uncertainty surrounding the investigation, influenced their decision to repatriate their parents’ remains to Switzerland for burial.
Reports also suggested that detectives were examining whether a family inheritance dispute could have been linked to the murders.

Why The Mutaagas were buried abroad
Investigators have never publicly confirmed whether that line of inquiry yielded any significant breakthroughs.
For the Mutaaga children, burying their parents in Switzerland was both a practical and emotional decision.
Having spent most of their lives in the European country, they felt a stronger sense of security and connection there than in Uganda, where the circumstances surrounding the killings remain unclear.
Wednesday’s burial at Dubendorf Cemetery marked the end of a painful chapter that had stretched on for almost a year.
Questions over The Mutaagas
Family and friends gathered to pay their final respects to the couple, whose plans for a quiet retirement were tragically cut short.
Yet even as David and Florence were finally laid to rest, many questions remain unanswered.
With no convictions and no clear motive established, the family continues to hope that one day justice will be served and the truth behind the killings will emerge.
