A petrol station attendant who reported for his night shift just like any other day has said that he had no idea it would end up with him helping to deliver a baby, but he stepped up and did it.

At just 21 years old, Chevaan Abrahams, a petrol attendant at a Shell garage in Kuils River, Cape Town, saw a pregnant woman arrive at the station in active labour.

“Other people ran away; only she and her boyfriend remained; that lady could have died here, and what things difficult for me was that no one wanted to help,”he said.

“The paramedic came at around 7am; the mother is going to name the baby’s second name Chevaan,” he added.

What makes the story even more powerful is that Chevaan has long dreamt of becoming a paramedic, so basically he was in the element of his dream job.

That night, without hesitation, training, or expectation of reward, he showed exactly the kind of courage, compassion, and instinct that South Africa needs in emergency care.

How did Kenyans react to the story?

Rene Hinson:

“This is amazing; he has a calling to be a paramedic!”

Henry Steenkamp:

“No the child’s name is SHELLTON.”

Mpho Constecia Mamphodo :·

“One thing about me ,I cry shame, always chopping onions for strangers.”

VR Marc:

“The babies name is Unleaded.”

Matshidiso Monyebodi:

“Finally, South Africans are making the right person famous. He seems genuinely kind and the fact that he wants to be a paramedic while hustling at the petrol shows he’s a determined hardworker. We should be making people like him famous and donating to them instead.”

Man helps wife to deliver outside hospital

In a different story, Joseck Abere and his wife said that they had meticulously prepared for the arrival of their child for over nine months, but things did not go as expected, and he had to deliver the baby.

The two hailed a boda boda, but when it arrived at the nearest hospital, the gate was locked, and no one came to open it when they knocked.

Abere had to step up right outside the gates of the Kihara Level 4 Hospital with the boda rider using his phone for light.
